Legal Definition

What is Company Domiciliation in Switzerland?

In Switzerland, “domiciliation” is a regulated legal service defined under Art. 119 of the Federal Anti-Money Laundering Act (AMLA). It specifically refers to providing a registered address to a legal entity for use in the commercial register or other official purposes.

Unlike in other countries where “registered address” is an informal concept, Swiss domiciliation is subject to strict regulation: the domiciliary agent must verify the identity of the beneficial owners (KYC), maintain records, and comply with reporting obligations.

Virtual Office Zug operates as a fully AMLA-compliant domiciliary agent. Our address is accepted by the Zug Cantonal Commercial Register (KGZG) for GmbH and AG registrations.

“Any person who, by way of business, provides a domicile address or other premises to persons, companies, or institutions, or holds office as a director of a company...”

In Practice

What domiciliation looks like day to day

Behind the legal definition, domiciliation is simple. Here is what actually happens when you domicile with VOZ.

When Mail Arrives

Monday morning. A letter from the Steuerverwaltung.

A registered letter arrives at Baarerstrasse 135 from the Zug cantonal tax authority. Our team scans it within hours and sends you a PDF by email with a priority flag. You read it from Singapore before the Swiss business day ends.

When Your Bank Asks

UBS requests your domiciliation certificate.

You are applying for a corporate account at UBS Zug. The compliance officer requests a domiciliation certificate. You download it from your VOZ portal — it is already signed by our fiduciary. UBS accepts it without additional documentation.

Every January

Annual renewal. Zero effort on your side.

Each January, we proactively renew your beneficial owner declaration as required by AMLA Art. 119. You receive an email, confirm your details online, and we handle the rest. No trips to Switzerland. No notary. No surprises.

Client Voices

Founders who chose VOZ for their Swiss domiciliation

“I domiciled three entities with VOZ — a holding AG, an operating GmbH, and a foundation. The AMLA compliance process was thorough but fast. All three addresses were active within 48 hours. Having one provider for all three simplifies everything.”

“I chose Zug specifically after comparing the tax rates. The CHF 9,200 annual saving versus a Zurich address covered my domiciliation cost for 12 years. The choice was obvious.”

“The AMLA Art. 119 compliance was the deciding factor. My bank specifically asked whether our domiciliary agent was AMLA-compliant. VOZ provided the documentation that confirmed it — UBS was satisfied immediately.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Swiss Domiciliation FAQ

Yes. Swiss law allows domiciliation in any of the 26 cantons. However, the choice of canton determines your corporate tax rate — which varies significantly. Zug offers the lowest effective rate (~11.9%), compared to Zurich (~21.1%) or Geneva (~13.99%). We cover all Swiss cantons but recommend Zug for most international structures.
Not exactly. In Switzerland, domiciliation is a regulated legal service defined under AMLA Art. 119 — it requires identity verification of beneficial owners, record keeping, and FINMA reporting obligations. A virtual office is a broader commercial concept that may include mail handling, phone services, and meeting rooms. Our service provides both: full AMLA-compliant domiciliation plus virtual office services.
Yes. Our Zug domiciliation address is accepted by the Swiss Federal Tax Administration (ESTV) for MWST/VAT registration. VAT registration is mandatory once your worldwide taxable turnover exceeds CHF 100,000 per year.
All physical mail received at your Zug address is scanned within 24 hours of receipt and forwarded to your email as PDF. Urgency detection is included — official correspondence from courts, tax authorities or FINMA is flagged immediately. Physical forwarding worldwide is available on request.
Art. 119 of the Swiss Anti-Money Laundering Act (AMLA/GwG) defines domiciliation as a regulated financial intermediary activity in Switzerland. A compliant domiciliary agent must verify the identity of all beneficial owners (KYC), maintain a shareholder register, conduct annual renewal of declarations, and report suspicious activity to FINMA. Non-compliant domiciliation providers expose clients to risk of register deregistration. Virtual Office Zug is fully AMLA-compliant.
Your Zug domiciliation address is active within 48 hours of completing KYC verification. You receive a formal domiciliation agreement and address confirmation letter suitable for commercial register submission and bank account opening.
Yes. Multiple legal entities can be registered at the same address under Swiss law. Each entity requires its own AMLA-compliant domiciliation agreement and KYC process. Contact us for group pricing on multiple entities.
For standard domiciliation you need: a valid passport or government ID, and a basic company information form (5 minutes online). For company formation (GmbH/AG), additional documents may be requested based on your structure. All submission is digital — no postal mail or notarisation required at this stage.
